So the rumors were true. Microsoft will indeed share its exclusives with the rest of its competitors and we now know the ins and outs. Following last week's podcast, the firm assured that a handful of games would be released on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. There are 4 of them and they are arriving in dribs and drabs in the coming months.
Excellent independent games
Today we officially learned that the titles in question are Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment and Sea of Thieves. Grounded was the first to be announced during the Nintendo Direct on February 21. Xbox left the honor to its partner to officially announce the game's release on Nintendo Switch. Players will be treated to a graphically less powerful version, but will still be able to discover the frightening and fascinating world of insects. This is also the case for Pentiment and its gameplay inspired by medieval tales.
The rest of the games were revealed in a press release from Microsoft, as well as on the firm's networks. Matt Booty, who is responsible for all Xbox Game Studios, said:
“As a publisher and a platform, we are committed to meeting gamers where they are, bringing more games, to more people, and on more devices.”
When will the games be released on PlayStation and Nintendo?
After this not-so-surprising announcement, all that remains is to note the next dates on the calendar. Chronologically, it is Pentiment that arrives first on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, this February 22. Next up, Hi-Fi Rush will be coming to PS5 on March 19. Grounded will be coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch on April 16. Finally, Sea of Thieves will be available on PS5 on April 30. All multiplayer games on the list will receive cross-platform functionality upon release.
There is no assurance that the feature will be extended to other games in the future. The many rumors also mentioned several AAA titles including Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle. It is possible that these franchises will become timed exclusives, but nothing has been confirmed by Xbox. The company remains vague about its intentions and nevertheless declares that Xbox is not abandoning its loyal players, neither on the service side nor on the hardware side.
