YouTube is about to officially launch a cheaper -free advertising offer than premium

Even though hostilities have calmed down a bit recently, YouTube is still waging a trench war against ad blockers. Viewers allergic to advertising can enjoy the platform's content "honestly" by subscribing to a Premium subscription. Unfortunately, some may find the prices a little too high: €12.99 per month for an individual, €23.99 for a family subscription, €7.99 for a student.

Unfortunately, France is not currently affected

Prices that may make you want to try solutions, let's say, not recommended by YouTube (but cheaper) to skip advertising. In order to help all those who are bothered by ad blockers, or who would like to subscribe but not at these prices, YouTube should officially launch a new tier called YouTube Premium Lite, according to Bloomberg. The price has yet to be determined, but it will be more affordable than YouTube Premium, period.

Unfortunately, the new offer would not be available in France, at least not initially. The United States, Germany, Australia and Thailand would indeed be the first countries served. Cheaper also means fewer services. Premium Lite would simply remove ads in non-music videos. To have clips without advertising, there is already the YouTube Music Premium subscription, at €10.99 per month. The subscriber would also be deprived of background playback and downloading for offline viewing.

YouTube did not want to confirm the news, which should however be made official soon. "As part of our commitment to offer our users more choice and flexibility, we are testing a new YouTube Premium offer with most videos ad-free in several of our markets," a spokesperson told Bloomberg. "We hope to expand this offer to even more users in the future with the support of our partners."

If the name Premium Lite rings a bell, it's because the platform has been testing it regularly. In 2021, YouTube charged €6.99 per month for this plan.
