What is Naughty Dog, the Californian PlayStation studio, up to? Since the release of the excellent The Last Of Us Part II in 2020, the studio has not released a single new game. We were treated to a remake of The Last Of Us and a reissue of The Last Of Us Part II on PS5 and PC. As well as a reissue of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy in a compilation, again on PC and PS5.
A few weeks ago, the studio raised the veil on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, his new game and his first new license in over a decade. But, apparently, this title should not arrive before 2027. In another time, Neil Druckmann, the co-president of Naughty Dog, seems to make it clear that a sequel to The Last Of Us is no longer really certain.
But, according to insider DanielRPK, this remains a bluff, because The Last Of Us Part III would indeed be in production. And precisely, it is this same DanielRPK who confirms to us today, that in addition to the two games already in preparation, Naughty Dog has been working on a third unannounced game for three years.
Naughty Dog: three games in the works?
It was on his Patreon account that insider DanielRPK confirmed some important new information about the Naughty Dog studio. According to his information, the studio has been working on a third, unannounced game for three years. It is Shaun Escayg, the Game Director of the excellent stand-alone Uncharted The Lost Legacy (2017) who is reportedly at at the head of this new project.
Of course, it is impossible to have more information and for the moment, we do not know if it is a sequel to Uncharted, a remake or a reboot of the Uncharted saga, or a new license. Let us also remember that in January 2023, Neil Druckmann officially declared that Naughty Dog was done with the Uncharted license.
Many rumors also mention the production of a Jak & Daxter animated film. Could Naughty Dog be considering Jak's return for the occasion?
Lots of questions, but unfortunately, very few answers. We will now have to be patient and see how the studio proceeds next. It is also unclear to this day whether this project is as big as Intergalactic or not, nor whether it is meant to come before or after it.
