The number 007 is one of those roles that sticks to your skin. Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan, all the actors who played James Bond have seen their careers branded by the character from Ian Flemming's imagination. After fifteen years in the spy's shoes, one could imagine that Daniel Craig would have a hard time letting go of this icon. But the British actor had rather well anticipated the switch to new projects, embodying a hero as iconic as Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson's film or even making major departures in tone and approach with Luca Guadagnino's recent Queer. According to information from Deadline, he is preparing to invest in an equally famous saga in a genre he knows quite well.
The American media indicates that it has learned from a reliable source that Daniel Craig is in negotiations with Netflix and Greta Gerwig for his saga The Chronicles of Narnia. He has reportedly already received an offer to join the cast. While there's no indication that he'll agree to take part in such an adventure, it's clear that the idea has something appealing about it. Firstly, because Daniel Craig is one of those fascinating actors, and also, and above all, because he's already taken on a fantasy world. As a reminder, he starred in His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass, an illustrious novel by Philip Pullman. If the adaptation wasn't a success, Craig didn't have to blush at his performance as Lord Asriel.
But to play who?
According to recent information, The Chronicles of Narnia by Greta Gerwig (Barbie) is due to begin filming this year. The coming months should be an opportunity for the director and the platform to bring together the actors and actresses who will lend their features to the heroes of the first novel. Unlike the Disney adaptation, this new saga will not evolve directly with the Pevensie children. Indeed, the director is expected to immortalize The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis.
As a reminder, the novel follows young Digory Kirke and his friend Polly Plummer. The two children discover magical rings, held by Digory's creepy uncle, which allow their wearers to travel to a world called the Wood Between the Worlds. We can already imagine that Daniel Craig will be offered the role of Andrew Kirke, the self-taught magician without whom this adventure would never have existed. If this were the case, Daniel Craig's participation will be limited. The character only appears in the first novel. It's also conceivable that Craig's performance will be entirely vocal. He could also be entrusted with the role of Aslan, the talking lion and King of Narnia.
The release of Greta Gerwig's first film is scheduled for November 2026. For the first time since she embarked on major feature film production, the American platform will rely on theatrical releases to generate revenue. The film will enjoy a two-week run in IMAX in select territories, before hitting Netflix shelves in early December. It goes without saying that this will be the end-of-year event for the red N, which has not yet had any real success in the fantasy department.
