It has always been possible to use the Apple Watch in Silent mode: it mutes all alerts, notifications, and sound effects from the connected watch. A blessing when you're at the office, with family, friends, and even sleeping (there are also concentration modes that mute alarms).
Alarms that bypass Silent mode
This Silent mode is available in the Apple Watch's Control Center; simply press the side button. Once activated, alerts are no longer audible, but they continue to be signaled via the watch's highly efficient Taptic engine. There is, however, one case where the mode can be a problem: alarms.
Users who sleep with their Apple Watch in Silent mode only hear alarms on their wrist, via the device's vibrations. And that's sometimes not enough to wake them up! watchOS 11.4 finally brings an option that will please everyone: "Ignore Silent Mode," which can be found in the options for each alarm. Disabled by default, it will always sound when wearing the Apple Watch, regardless of the Silent mode status. Below, the setting of an alarm with watchOS 11.3 to left, the same thing under watchOS 11.4.
Otherwise, watchOS 11.4 brings relatively few new features, except for support for robot vacuum cleaners (compatible with the Matter protocol) in the Home app and with Siri. A fix is also available to streamline the watch face selector.
