Asterix and Obelix unveil the destination of their 41st album

In a few months, Asterix and Obelix will return to bookstores with an exotic 41st album. After the success of The White Iris in 2023, Fabcaro returns to work as the scriptwriter for these new adventures, while Didier Conrad continues his work as an illustrator. The two comic book experts invite us to join us on October 23, 2025 to discover Asterix in Lusitania. If this ancient name means nothing to you, the modern identity of this destination is surely more familiar. The indomitable Gauls will be setting down their suitcases in Portugal for the very first time in their history.

A travel album that wants to do things well

After a final local adventure in The White Iris, the choice of this expedition to Lusitania was a natural one for Fabcaro. “First we had to find a destination our friends had never been to. And, as it turns out, the range of possibilities is gradually narrowing, our Gauls are starting to have traveled quite a bit!” explains the screenwriter, who adds that he wanted to create a sunny, bright album in a Mediterranean country, which feels a bit like a holiday.“

The author and the editor therefore went to Portugal to do some scouting, to ensure a good representation of this ancient Portugal. “I enjoy reproducing picturesque landscapes and introducing touches specific to the culture of the country visited, and there is no shortage of that in Portugal.” adds Didier Conrad. We will now have to be patient before discovering this album in bookstores. In the meantime, the new animated adaptation of the adventures of Asterix and Obelix by Alain Chabat will be released on Netflix on April 30.
