"Dark, scary": this is what we should expect from the bad muse in Daredevil Born Again

Kingpin. Bullseye. The Punisher. In all the chaos, we can't say that Matt Murdock's daily life in Hell's Kitchen is the calmest. And the adversaries that fate chooses to place in his path are the most relaxing and easy to understand. And since life is far from being a long, calm river for a Marvel hero, a newcomer will be added to the list in the person of Muse, in Daredevil: Born Again.

Little known to the general public, Muse, played by Hunter Doohan (Your Honor) is a villain from the Marvel Universe recently introduced in comics, since his first appearance in comics dates back to 2016, born from the imagination of Charles Soule and Ron Garney. He is a psychopath, of unknown real identity, wearing a white mask with blackened eye sockets, completely obsessed with art but in his own way, since he considers the human body as a source of creation and inspiration. Notably the blood of his victims, which Muse then uses to create his frescoes, as evidenced by his first work, which required the blood of 100 victims, just that.

Misunderstood artist, bloodthirsty killer, formidable adversary

We are therefore talking about a bloodthirsty killer as well as an artist who literally feels misunderstood, capable of painting at breakneck speed and making unpredictable decisions, to say the least. And that's not all. In the comics, Muse is endowed with very particular qualities. He has extraordinary strength and agility. He is also capable of erasing his presence, absorbing all sensory information around him, which should not help Daredevil during their confrontation.

Without knowing how the Born Again teams adapted the character in their series, they still delivered some information on what we can expect from him during the show. “There are stressors that come into play,” says Dario Scardapane, the showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again and who previously worked on The Punisher series. And I would say that Muse is one of those stressors. What happens with him creates a domino effect that goes beyond this season and into the future.”

A role that spans both seasons of Born Again?

In other words, Muse could have a greater and stronger involvement beyond of this first season of Daredevil: Born Again. Since the series was originally conceived as a single 18-episode season before being split into two seasons (or two parts), it would actually make sense. “But that's about all I can say. You know, people know he's in the show. What exactly happens and what effect it has on those two (Wilson Fisk and Daredevil, editor's note), I won't say.”

The final word on the subject finally came from Vincent D'Onofrio. “Scary, dark, scary” are the three words cited by the actor, later taken up by Dario Scardapane. Even if we have already had a vague glimpse of Muse, the answer will be in the next episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, to discover how accurate these three words are.
