Devil May Cry: a last 100% rock trailer and 2000s for the Netflix series

Devil May Cry: a last 100% rock trailer and 2000s for the Netflix series

With Devil May Cry, Netflix is preparing a perfect cocktail of comedy, fighting, and punk rock. Capcom's crazy hack & slash game is getting a colorful adaptation that will make its debut on the platform on Thursday, April 3. A few weeks before this broadcast, so eagerly awaited by fans of the franchise, the streaming giant has just shared a final trailer that smells of the 2000s. While the series' opening credits borrow the title "Rollin'" from Limp Bizkit, the new trailer draws on her in another classic of the era: Papa Roach's "Last Resort."

The action scenes and soundtrack transport us directly to the great era of AMV – "anime music video," amateur music videos based on clips from anime or video games – which were then popular on YouTube and some TV channels. With the showrunner of the series Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix at the helm of this new adaptation, accompanied by the talents of the Korean studio Mir on animation (The Legend of Korra, My Adventures with Superman…): it goes without saying that the show promises to be grandiose, visually speaking at least. As for the storyline, the new trailer finally gives us some details.

Popular Characters Return

Netflix didn't settle for a silly and nasty adaptation of the video game. The Devil May Cry series will draw on the franchise's expanded universe since the show's antagonist turns out to be White Rabbit, a demon who only appeared in the manga Devil May Cry 3. This crazy rabbit with a design inspired by Alice in Wonderland intends to open a portal between the human world and the demon world in order to reign supreme on Earth.

Unsurprisingly, the iconic Dante isn't going to pass up such a chance to have fun blasting demons all over the place. True to his flamboyant character in the video games, this animated version of the protagonist seems just as edgy and extravagant. Long red coat, endless abs, dual pistols, and a sword ready to cut anything: there's no doubt about it, this is the Dante we know. Viewers will also be treated to a double dose of nerve and chutzpah, since the demon hunter's twin, Vergil, will also be in the game. Tune in in three weeks to find out if this take on the cult action game proves to be as effective as the adaptation of Castlevania.
