What is actually happening around the Dino Crisis license? A true cult license from the 90s with two notable installments on the first PlayStation, Dino Crisis was supposed to arrive on PS2 with a third installment, unexpectedly canceled. While the series will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, Capcom has never found good to relaunch the latter.
Last year, during Gamescom, Capcom even confirmed that the company was not interested in a return of Dino Crisis, which could conflict with its Monster Hunter license. However, since these statements from Shinji Mikami, the creator of the series (but also of Resident Evil), a lot of things have happened and are starting to give hope to fans.
Dino Crisis, is the return being prepared?
After Mikami's surprising statements that made many fans cringe, everything suggests that Capcom is slowly preparing the return of Dino Crisis. Last December, as part of PlayStation's 30th anniversary, the first Dino Crisis game returned in a "Classic" version to the PlayStation Store and was offered to PS Plus subscribers.
A few days later, during the Game Awards, many cult licenses had the right to their big comeback, such as Okami 2 and Onimusha from Capcom, but also Virtua Fighter and Turok from competing publishers. Shortly after the ceremony, Capcom confirmed on its official website that the publisher intended to focus on "reviving dormant IPs that haven't had new title launches recently," suggesting that all hopes weren't dead for Dino Crisis. Today, surprise! We learned that Capcom has just re-registered the Dino Crisis trademark in Japan, a first in over seven years! This is how the media Tech4Gamers spotted the information. On March 4, Capcom re-registered the Dino Crisis trademark in Japan, a first since 2019. Although for the moment, there is no official information or announcement, this still gives a lot of hope for the arrival of a remake or something similar. To be continued!
