Presented in detail during the last Xbox Developers Direct yesterday evening, Doom The Dark Ages confirms its release date on May 15. This date had been leaked for a few hours on the Internet. It is now official and confirmed by Bethesda and Microsoft.
Doom The Dark Ages: no multiplayer, only solo
During this presentation, we were able to learn a little more about this new Doom, which was announced at Summer Game Fest 2024. The title will therefore arrive on Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5 on May 15, as leaks had implied in recent hours.
Doom The Dark Ages is the eighth main game in the Doom franchise and the third installment in the modern series. It is a prequel to Doom and Doom Eternal that will take place in the Middle Ages. We will have the opportunity to discover the story of the origin of the Doom Slayer as he fights to protect the earth from the forces of hell.
As always, the title will be developed by id Software and promises to be brutal, intense, gory and enjoyable! We also learn that the game will be much more open than the previous ones. Without falling into the vice of open-world, the game will offer large open areas giving a bit of a “sandbox” style to the title.
id Software also confirms that Doom The Dark Ages will not have a multiplayer mode. The game will be a single-player title only, as Marty Stratton, the game's executive producer, explains: "This is our biggest, most expansive, most epic campaign yet, and we're really happy with that decision."
Doom The Dark Ages also adjustable difficulty via sliders in the menu, allowing the player to choose whether they want to deal/take more or less damage. It will even be possible to choose the speed of opponents' projectiles.
