If the situation doesn't improve quickly for Tesla, owners of the brand's cars could literally pay the price through an increase in their insurance.
Tesla's descent into hell has very direct consequences for those who own a vehicle from the brand. While the antics of its leader Elon Musk annoy more and more people, drivers must be extra careful around activists to avoid becoming a target. Some show their support with bumper stickers while continuing to use their car. Others choose to sell it outright, even if it means losing out by selling it at a fraction of the cost.
A situation that's already very distressing, but one that's likely to get worse. As you know, the price of car insurance is calculated based on several factors, including the risk the vehicle poses in various situations. Is it one of the most stolen models? Is it more involved in road accidents than others? Is it more likely to be the victim of vandalism such as scratches or broken windows? In the latter case, the answer is unfortunately yes for Tesla.
The price of insuring a Tesla car could rise soon
As Shannon Martin, an insurance analyst at Bankrate, a financial services company, points out: “The Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Model X are the most expensive electric vehicles to insure in February 2025 [in the United States]”. The cost of comprehensive insurance for a Tesla Model 3 has even increased by 30% in 2024, reaching $4,362 per year. The expert expects a new increase for this year, reminding us that when a brand encounters problems of this kind, it is the drivers who ultimately pay.

And what about France? The country is also increasingly affected by anti-Tesla acts, so the question of an increase in insurance contracts also arises. According to the comparison site Le Lynx, the average price to insure a Tesla, all models combined, is currently 1,274 euros per year. Other comparison sites give similar figures. So we're still a long way from American rates, but we can see that in our country, the amount of the premium is increasing steadily, although slightly, as the months go by.
