Google Gemini launches two big news to respond to Chatgpt

Google Gemini, which has definitively buried Google Assistant, is introducing two important new features to enrich its users' experience. The first, "Canvas," allows you to write, edit, and collaborate on text and code much more smoothly. The other, "Audio Overview," converts documents into audio files. Two new tools are available to both free Gemini users and Gemini Advanced subscribers.

Canvas: A collaborative space for writing and coding

With Canvas, Google is responding to the feature of the same name offered on ChatGPT. Accessible directly via Gemini's query bar, this tool allows you to write and edit text in real time, receiving automatic suggestions to improve the clarity, tone, or length of a text. You can write a speech, refine an essay, or edit an article with greater precision, either by directly editing the text yourself (bold, subtitles, rewriting, etc.), or by selecting a word, sentence, or paragraph and asking Gemini to modify it for you. A bulleted list, for example, can be quickly transformed into a paragraph.

For developers, Canvas offers a dedicated space for quickly coding websites, Python scripts, or interactive applications. You can generate code, immediately preview it in Gemini, and adjust it using automated suggestions. Whether you're writing or coding, a single click exports a project to Google Docs to facilitate collaboration between multiple contributors. Available today, Canvas promises considerable time savings and greater flexibility in editing your texts and lines of code.

Audio Overview: Transform a document into an interactive podcast

Another notable new feature in Gemini: Audio Overview. The tool converts complex documents into audio discussions, similar to a podcast. Inspired by NotebookLM, this feature generates a dialogue between two AI hosts who summarize, explain, and discuss the contents of a file. This feature will prove very useful for students, researchers, and professionals. The tool allows you to obtain an audible version of a report, an email, or a research document. With one click, a file is transformed and can be listened to or downloaded for later viewing.

First available in English, Audio Overview will be rolled out in other languages soon. Accessible on the web and via the Gemini mobile app, this is a very practical feature for those who like to consume content differently. We can easily imagine the benefit this can have when you're on a journey and can't or don't necessarily want to read a long text content.
