There are no more Chromecast devices available on the Google Store. The stock is depleted and will not be restocked, as Google has decided to end this family of products in favor of its TV Streamer, a more efficient but also more expensive device.
The Chromecast family has died out. These very popular TV dongles are no longer sold by Google. They were used in particular to access video streaming services and other features on TVs without Smart TVs or all entry-level models with low-performance embedded systems. Chromecasts also allowed you to cast content to your TV from your mobile.
As spotted by 9To5Google, the Chromecast with Google TV, in its 4K or HD version, is no longer in stock on Google's official website in the United States. After verification, the product marketed in 2020 for the 4K model and 2022 for the HD one is no longer available in France either.
The Google TV Streamer becomes the only available option
While it is no longer possible to acquire the device, except perhaps from other retailers, Google continues its software support. The Chromecast with Google TV received an update a few weeks ago, bringing bug fixes and performance improvements. It should still benefit from regular security patches, while an update update to Android 14 is expected in the coming months.
The American firm believes that it is no longer as relevant as before to offer consumers this type of entry-level HDMI streaming device, because today's Smart TVs include most of the basic features that Chromecasts gave access to. This is why it launched the Google TV Streamer at the end of 2024, the replacement for Chromecast products, oriented more high-end to compete with Nvidia's Shield TV or the Apple TV 4K.
Google had announced that it was stopping production of Chromecast when it announced the Google TV Streamer, specifying that they would be on sale until they were out of stock. About six months later, we're finally here, and it's a major page in the history of TV streaming devices that's turning.
