Adobe is launching a free version of Photoshop, its popular photo editing application. The application does, however, come with an optional subscription that unlocks all of its features.
Previously only available as an application for PC and Mac, Photoshop has also been available as a mobile application for some time now. This one, called Photoshop Express, was more limited than the Desktop version. But it allowed you to take advantage of the touch screens of smartphones and tablets to make quick photo or sketch edits.
Unfortunately, until now, using this version of Photoshop (Photoshop Express) involved paying a subscription. A fairly expensive package for ordinary people, especially to use a light version of the famous software. But things are changing with the arrival of a more complete version of Photoshop on mobile. Adobe explains that this application benefits from a third of a free subscription.

Enough to benefit from a reduced set of features, which still includes things like Generative Fill. A function based on Firefly AI that facilitates the modification of images, by doing what you ask it via a prompt. Beyond that, the free version lets users create images and designs by combining, compositing, and merging visuals using basic Photoshop tools like selections, layers, and masks.
Removing, recoloring, or replacing elements of an image with the intuitive Tap Select tool, or using retouching tools like the Spot Healing Brush, is also part of the free offering. As is access to a vast library of hundreds of thousands of free Adobe Stock assets.
A $7.99 per month or $69.99 per year subscription unlocks the rest of the features. And adds access to Photoshop for the web which includes a wider range of tools. To enjoy this free version of Photoshop on mobile, simply download Adobe Photoshop on your device.
Unfortunately, Adobe currently only offers this version of Photoshop on iPhone. At the time of writing, the publisher is simply specifying that the Android version is coming "soon".
