In 2007, Steve Jobs took the stage and held a revolution in his hand. The Apple boss was convinced: the iPhone would change the world. 18 years later, the before and after is undeniable. Apple is one of the most powerful companies in the world, and the iPhone remains its flagship product.
But in recent years, the smartphone hasn't changed much. The latest generations are similar, and Android brands, starting with Samsung and Google, are gaining market share. To change this, the brand Apple is reportedly about to transform the iPhone.
iPhone Fold: Are the rumors progressing?
For several years, rumors have been announcing the arrival of an iPhone "Fold" to compete with other folding smartphones. But in recent months, the information has become increasingly precise. Apple experts, starting with journalist Mark Gurman, known for his sources, all indicate the arrival of an iPhone "Fold" in 2026.
Recently, it was Apple's other reference, financial analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who supported these rumors. He confirmed the development of a prototype for 2026, with an unfolded screen of 7.8 inches and 5.5 inches at a minimum. The screen size seems to be the consensus. This would mean that Apple has at least built a conclusive prototype.
According to financial analyst Tim Long for Barclays, this little gem of technology would nevertheless have a price. Apple, true to its DNA, would have a fairly high starting price. It's said to be $2,299 in the United States. This would bring us to around €2,500 in France, for 128 GB of storage certainly.
At what price?
With such a starting price, the "Fold" iPhone would be twice as expensive as the iPhone 16 Pro Max. A price justified by Apple with a 7.8-inch interior screen and a 5.5-inch exterior screen. This foldable iPhone would have a fairly classic photo block, with two cameras the back only.
Apple would have even planned to save money, more in space than in price, on the locking system. Indeed, Apple would have preferred Touch ID on the power button, rather than Face ID. A very questionable technological choice for Apple, which could make up for this lack of technology, to reduce the thickness of the device.
Analysts expect a thickness of 4.5 millimeters when the phone is unfolded and between 9 and 9.5 millimeters when folded. Ming-Chi Kuo even announced that the device will have a titanium chassis, with a hinge using an alloy halfway between titanium and stainless steel.
