Microsoft makes it easier to share Office documents on iOS and iPadOS! No more hassle opening a shared file on your iPhone or iPad. You no longer need a Microsoft account to take a look at... that urgent Excel spreadsheet or last-minute PowerPoint presentation.
Microsoft has just announced a major improvement for Apple device users. It is now possible to view shared Office files on iPhone and iPad without having to log in to a Microsoft account.
This new feature, already available on the web, is now extending to iOS and iPadOS mobile devices, considerably simplifying access to shared documents for a large number of users.

Easier opening, but limits to editing
The update concerns the Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. It allows recipients of shared files to open and view documents without having to log in. However, to edit content or leave comments, signing in to a Microsoft account is still required.
This change addresses a real need, given the popularity of Office formats in many organizations. The sharing process has also been simplified. Simply open the file to be shared, select "Share," then "Link Settings," and choose the option "Anyone with the link can edit" or "Anyone with the link can view." The generated link can then be sent via email or a messaging app like Microsoft Teams.
The feature is available starting with version 2.94 (Build 25020422) of the Office apps on iOS and iPadOS. It represents a further step towards better interoperability between the Microsoft and Apple ecosystems, benefiting users who often navigate between the two worlds.
It is clear that Microsoft is trying to make its services more and more accessible, even to users who do not have an account. This new update should facilitate collaboration and document sharing in many professional and personal contexts, while preserving a certain level of security since editing remains reserved for authenticated users.
