On Netflix, this new series will please fans of Fullmetal Alchimist

Netflix is increasingly relying on anime to enrich its catalog. After the success of Dragon Ball Daima, and Gloutons & Dragons, the platform has announced the release of Moonrise for April 10, 2025. Behind this ambitious project is Hiromu Arakawa, the creative mind behind Fullmetal Alchemist. Rather than relying on existing licenses, the platform wants to invest in its own original creations.

Moonrise, What's it about?

In the near future, as war rages between Earth and the Moon, two men, Jack and Al, must face the dangers of the cosmos. On one side, humans want to live in peace on Earth, on the other, evolved beings are ready to do anything to keep their lunar territory. A high-tension interplanetary war of independence, carried by a team of top-flight creatives.

At the helm of Moonrise we find Hiromu Arakawa in charge of character design. The mangaka, famous for her work on the Fullmetal Alchemist saga, is not alone in carrying out the project: The artistic direction is also Masashi Koizuka, whose work on seasons 2 and 3 of Attack on Titan set the small screen ablaze between 2017 and 2019. Scriptwriter Tow Ubukata (Psycho-Pass) is in charge of writing. On the soundtrack side, Ryo Kawasaki, composer for Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens, is in charge. Geek Journal

Signed WIT Studio

The choice of WIT Studio for the production of Moonrise is far from insignificant. The studio, already responsible for Spy x Family, Vinland Saga and the first seasons of Attack on Titan, has established itself as one of the spearheads of contemporary Japanese animation. Its involvement in the project already promises exceptional execution, combining fluidity of movement, richness of settings and expressiveness of characters. A hell of a A blend of talents, for a series that promises to be a landmark in the platform's history. Beyond its enticing theme, it's Hiromu Arakawa's intellectual depth that could give substance to the series. The author's work on Fullmetal Alchemist demonstrated her talent for tackling complex philosophical and moral questions within a mainstream narrative. We can legitimately hope to find this richness in his vision of Moonrise.

See you on April 10th

The date is therefore set for April 10th, 2025. Moonrise promises to be much more than just space entertainment, but a new benchmark work in the genre animated science fiction. Expectations are immense, matching the talent gathered for this project, which could well leave a lasting mark on the history of Japanese animation on streaming platforms.
