Known among techies for the excellent value for money of its (gaming) smartphones, POCO is back with a new series. The company is taking advantage of an event held in Singapore to introduce the POCO F7 Pro and its first premium model, the POCO F7 Ultra. "With the POCO F7 series, we have made cutting-edge technology more accessible than ever," says Angus Ng, Head of Product Marketing at POCO. "For the first time, we are introducing an Ultra model that takes power and performance to the next level for POCO. […] The launch of the POCO F7 Ultra and POCO F7 Pro marks a significant step forward.".
A double dose of power and performance
True to its reputation, Xiaomi's young independent brand offers plenty of power under the hood. At the heart of the POCO F7 Ultra is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, manufactured in 3nm by TSMC. It offers up to 45% CPU and 44% GPU performance gains compared to the previous generation (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3), while reducing power consumption (up to -52% CPU, -46% GPU). The F7 Ultra boasts an impressive AnTuTu score of 2843461, which promises excellent performance in demanding games and multitasking.
The F7 Ultra also innovates with POCO's first dedicated graphics chip, the VisionBoost D7 (12 nm). This chip improves gaming immersion thanks to Smart Frame Rate (120 FPS), 2K Super Resolution and Game HDR. For video (YouTube, Netflix), Dual-core Visuals technology optimizes resolution, refresh rate and HDR. The POCO F7 Pro is no exception and features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, a chip that will still be going strong in 2025.
HyperCharge and HyperOS to power the F7 series
Both models run Xiaomi HyperOS 2 out of the box, with features such as HyperCore, HyperConnect (cross-platform connectivity) and HyperAI (including the Google Gemini assistant). WildBoost 4.0 optimization aims to provide a very smooth gaming experience (up to 120 FPS, 90 FPS on Genshin Impact for the F7 Pro), while LiquidCool 4.0 technology with its 3D dual-channel IceLoop system (5400mm² heat pipe) seeks to keep temperatures low even during intensive use.
The POCO F7 Ultra features a 5300 mAh battery with 120W HyperCharge (100% in 34 minutes) and 50W HyperCharge wireless charging. The POCO F7 Pro has a massive 6000mAh battery with 90W HyperCharge.
Both devices benefit from the POCO Surge P3 (charging) and Surge G1 (battery) chipsets to optimize speed, efficiency, and longevity (over 80% capacity after 1600 cycles).
Ambitions for photography
The POCO F7 Ultra introduces the brand's most advanced camera system:
- 50MP main sensor (Light Fusion 800): f/1.6 aperture, OIS, 1/1.55″
- POCO's first 50MP floating telephoto camera: f/2.0 aperture, 2.5x optical zoom (60mm), 5x in-sensor zoom (120mm), 10cm macro, OIS
- Ultra 32MP wide-angle (120°): f/2.2 aperture, 120°
This set covers 8 classic focal lengths, the manufacturer specifies. Everything is powered by POCO AISP, POCO's first AI computational photography platform, integrating CPU, GPU, NPU and ISP via HyperOS. Features like UltraZoom Beta 20X and UltraSnap (fast capture of up to 150 images) are included. Finally, a 32MP front camera completes the photo section.
The POCO F7 Pro features:
- 50MP main camera (Light Fusion 800): f/1.6 aperture, OIS, 1/1.55″
- 8MP ultra-wide: f/2.2 aperture
This model adds a 20MP front camera and benefits from the POCO AISP platform with UltraSnap, as well as dual-lens portraits. Finally, both models include creative features like Dynamic Shots.
POCO's signature design
The F7 Ultra and F7 Pro feature ultra-thin bezel displays, offering a peak brightness of 3200 nits. POCO emphasizes visual comfort with Circular Polarization technology (mimicking natural daylight), high-frequency PWM dimming (3840 Hz), and multiple TÜV Rheinland certifications (Low Blue Light, Flicker-Free, Circadian Rhythm Friendly). Touch responsiveness is improved by AI (wet fingers, oil, gloves), and POCO introduces for the first time an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen.
The F7 series aims to combine aesthetics and robustness. Both models feature a glossy/matte two-tone glass finish. The F7 Ultra features quad-curved glass for a better grip, a matte metal frame, and an aerospace-grade aluminum decorative ring around the camera for a look that's true to the brand's spirit. The F7 Ultra features POCO Shield Glass, the toughest POCO ever, while the F7 Pro uses Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Both models feature IP68 certification for increased dust and water resistance.
Finally, the brand optimizes connectivity (+37% in mid/high frequency cellular, +16% in Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) thanks to the Surge T1S chip. Dual stereo speakers and AI Super Cinema (for some video applications) enhance the immersive multimedia experience.
