When will PlayStation return to the top? It is clear that since the PS5 generation, Sony has radically changed the way it communicates. Before 2020, the company had accustomed players to several big communication times during the year. Between E3, Gamescom, PlayStation Experience, players had enough to have a long-term vision of the different games coming to their consoles. But since the PS5 generation, Sony has been moving forward month by month.
Every year, the Japanese manufacturer offers enough exclusives and games (3/4 on average). But for 2025, apart from Ghost of Yotei which should arrive during the year, without further details, we don't know what PlayStation has planned for its players on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
After several State of Play, small events sometimes reserve some nice surprises, it could be that the manufacturer could prepare the return of the PlayStation Showcase, its big major event for May or June.
A big PlayStation Showcase for the next quarter?
Since May 2023, Sony has no longer offered a major event worthy of the name. But that should soon change. Indeed, according to journalist Jeff Grubb, in his latest podcast, Sony should organize a new PlayStation Showcase between late spring (May) and this summer (June or July).
However, according to the journalist's sources, for the moment, Sony has not yet confirmed its next communication time. The Japanese firm is still hesitating between a new State of Play or a return of the PlayStation Showcawe.
The last State of Play dates back to last week, and it was during the latter that we learned that a State of Play dedicated to Borderlands 4 would be broadcast in April. During this same period, Nintendo will broadcast its Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch 2. In June, for the Summer Game Fest, Xbox should also offer an Xbox Showcase, as it does every year.
A return of the PlayStation Showcase to reveal PlayStation Studios' projects for the second life cycle of the PS5 would be an excellent thing to reassure players.
