Announced a few weeks ago during the Game Awards 2024 ceremony, Split Fiction is a game that will arrive (very) quickly! Indeed, the title is already expected for March 6, in just over a month. And, the wait is already very high around this next game which will have the heavy task of succeeding the GOTY 2021: It Takes Two.
Because yes, Split Fiction is the new production of Josef Fares, the director of the Hazelight studio to whom we owe incredible games like A Way Out (2018) and It Takes Two (2021). But Josef Fares also distinguished himself by creating his first game, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons in 2013, before creating his own studio.
What makes these games special? They all received exceptional critical feedback. In addition to that, the titles offer an innovative side, requiring players to play in pairs (except for Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which allowed them to play alone).
Thus, for the past ten years, Josef Fares has imposed his vision and offered us very beautiful stories, very often touching and moving, and we are already looking forward to discovering his new story with Split Fiction. And right now, discover all the information you need to know about the game so you don't miss anything before its release!
- DATE OF CREATION: JANUARY 29, 2025

Split Fiction: release and media?
Split Fiction is expected to be released on March 6, 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game will have an upgrade directly for the PS5 Pro version.
Prices and available versions
To date, only one version of Split Fiction has been announced with the standard version, offered at 49.99 euros on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is already available for pre-order, in physical and digital versions.
What is the Friend Pass?
The Friend Pass is an initiative of Josef Fares and Hazelight. Since Hazelight games are playable only with two players (locally or online), the studio offers a "Friend Pass" in each version of the game. This is a code that you can send to a friend and that will allow them to play the entire game, with you, without having to buy it on their own. So, for 49.99 euros, it’s like buying two games: yours and your friend’s.
Split Fiction, what’s it about?
This new title will allow us to meet and play as Mio and Zoé, two writers with contrasting profiles who specialize in science fiction and fantasy respectively. The latter will find themselves trapped in their own stories after being sucked into a machine designed to steal their creative ideas. You will thus live a crazy adventure where you will go from one world to another by collaborating to master various abilities in order to escape this extraordinary adventure without losing your memory.
For the record, you should know that the first names of Mio and Zoé are directly inspired by the first names of Joesf Fares' two daughters. If that's not cute!
Is the game accessible to everyone?
Yes! This is the particularity of Hazelight games. In addition to being beautiful, touching and exciting, the studio offers games with extremely varied gameplay that will be accessible to everyone. Whether you are a novice or a video game veteran, whether you play with an adult or a child, the game will be suitable and accessible to everyone!
Do you have to have played It Takes Two to enjoy Split Fiction?
Absolutely not. Split Fiction is not a sequel to It Takes Two or A Way Out. It is a new license with new characters and new stories.
Will the game offer an online mode?
Yes, it will be completely possible to play the entire Split Fiction adventure locally (so two people on the same console) or online. However, apart from the main story, the game will not offer multiplayer. It will only be possible to do co-op on the game's story.
Will the game offer side missions?
Yes! Unlike A Way Out or It Takes Two, Split Fiction will feature a main storyline, which will focus on the story of Mio and Zoe. On the other hand, players will also be able to visit mysterious portals that will send them to explore new worlds that are as rich as they are unique, and entirely optional.
Hazelight explains that these worlds are optional stories, in other words, anomalies that arise because Mio and Zoe are trapped within a single simulation. These portals appear when the simulation tries to access their unfinished youth stories to take them over: Mio and Zoé then find themselves in situations that are at once incredible, magical and chaotic.
These optional stories will move away from the main plot, which will be centered on the science fiction and fantasy genres that are Mio and Zoé's favorite areas. With these levels, you will be able to discover other universes and panoramas with nice surprises!
Although these stories are optional, it is recommended to linger over them. In addition to offering additional hours of play, new gameplay features and surprises, they will also allow you to learn more about Mio and Zoé's characters!
