They were said to be doomed, but mini smartphones may finally be making a comeback. While Oppo has confirmed the upcoming arrival of an Oppo Find X8 mini, Vivo has presented an X200 Pro mini, Honor is also said to be getting involved.
The leaker Digital Chat Station, which has a good reputation for reliability, has published a message on its Weibo account indicating that Honor would be working on a model with a diagonal of 6.3 inches. The latter would also play on the fashion for ultra-thin smartphones that marked the MWC 2025.
6.3 inches, is it really mini?
Calling a smartphone with a 6.3-inch screen mini may seem surprising. Let us recall that the iPhone 16 adopts a 6.2-inch screen and that the venerable iPhone 13 mini established it at 5.4 inches.
However, with the progressive reduction of the borders and a slightly more square ratio, it is quite makes it possible to imagine a smartphone, if not mini, at least compact, with a 6.3-inch screen.
Does this sudden increase in mini models launched by Chinese manufacturers mean that the Chinese market is particularly fond of small smartphones? Or can we hope for a global deployment of these devices?
Because for a few years now, the mini format had rather fallen out of love and had simply disappeared from the shelves, due to lack of sufficient sales. Even Asus, the last defender of the format, had stopped in 2024 by launching the Zenfone 11 Ultra with a diagonal of 6.78 inches.
