The Gate VR: The Free Roaming Sanctuary

The Gate VR: The Free Roaming Sanctuary

We tested Infection Origins and Ghost Hunter, two games with very different atmospheres, during a team session of 5 players. Verdict? A fluid and well-thought-out experience.

An immersion that begins as soon as you enter

As soon as you walk through the door, the high-tech atmosphere of the place is immediately perceptible. The space was designed to put visitors in this mood: modern furniture, elegant lockers and very comfortable sofas.

A welcome with VR Caviar

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by VR Caviar, a TikToker passionate about VR experiences, which he comments on or presents on his channel in 50-second videos. He shares his expertise on new immersive experiences and introduces us to the concept of The Gate VR.

After a clear and quick briefing, we are equipped with HTC Vive Focus 3 headsets, which integrate microphones, speakers and cameras, allowing for complete immersion.

Infection Origins: an effective survival

First session on Infection Origins. We play a team responsible for evacuating a quarantined city, infested with zombies. The atmosphere is well worked: sound effects, lighting effects and reactive weapons contribute to the immersion. In the game, we see not only our teammates, but also our own hands and arms in VR. The life bar is directly displayed on our virtual suit in the form of visible bars, which avoids having an intrusive interface.

The whole thing is very well run: no technical problems, no loss of connection or latency. The action is fluid, and movement is seamless in the game space.

Ghost Hunter: an accessible experience

We then move on to Ghost Hunter, a lighter and family-friendly game where the objective is to capture ghosts and collect energy gel. The atmosphere is more playful, with a colorful universe that contrasts with the dark aspect of the previous game. The approach is simple and accessible, ideal for a session with family or friends.

Here again, fluidity is there, without technical interruptions. The gameplay remains basic but works well in this format.

A reliable system, without latency or bulky backpack

The strong point of The Gate VR is the stability of the system. No signal loss or tracking problem, and precise movement tracking. Sessions run smoothly, which wasn’t always the case in VR experiences a few years ago.

Another major development: no more need for a backpack with an embedded PC. The entire experience is streamed directly from local servers, which eliminates any latency and makes the experience much smoother.
The only small downside is that the headset remains bulky and heavy.

Overall: a well-mastered VR experience

With a warm welcome and a catalog of 12 varied games, The Gate VR offers a fluid experience adapted to different player profiles. Infection Origins works well in the survival register, and Ghost Hunter provides a more accessible alternative. The absence of technical problems such as high latency, connection interruptions or motion tracking failures is a real asset. The move to wireless streaming significantly improves the experience, although the Focus 3 headset is still noticeably heavier than the Meta Quest 3.
