Pixel smartwatch owners have been eagerly awaiting the Wear OS 5.1 update, but they're disappointed. It brings with it a host of bugs that are very annoying in everyday use.
In beta since 2024, Wear OS 5.1 is starting to roll out to compatible smartwatches, including the Pixel Watch 3 and previous generations. Given its numbering, one might think that this is a simple fix targeting a few bugs here and there while improving performance. Yet Google could very well have named this iteration Wear OS 6.0 without shocking anyone, and for good reason: 5.1 is based on Android 15 while the previous one was content with Android 14.
Nothing minor in the end, quite the contrary. Owners of a Pixel Watch were therefore impatient to see the notification announcing the availability of the update, and this is what some have noticed since the beginning of March 2025. Unfortunately, the general enthusiasm was quickly tempered by the first feedback from users. It seems that in addition to its new features, Wear OS 5.1 has above all brought its share of annoying bugs.

Just visit the social network Reddit to see the extent of the damage. Among the problems identified, we note that the arrival of notifications is particularly slow. One user explains that his watch vibrates to announce one, but when he raises his wrist to look at it, it doesn't appear for a while. Others report that they are unable to change their Pixel Watch faces because trying crashes the app.

Finally, connecting Google smartwatches with the FitBit app takes far too long. According to reports, the only solutions that seem to work are restarting the watch at best, or a factory reset at worst. At the time of publication, Google has not officially acknowledged the existence of these bugs, so we don't know if a fix is in the works.
