Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Xbox controller. It will finally allow us to say goodbye to a huge flaw in current models, in addition to borrowing a feature from Sony's DualSense.

The new consoles are always eagerly awaited by gamers. This is an opportunity to discover how Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo imagine the video games of tomorrow. But that's forgetting a very important component that will allow us to enjoy them: the controller. Without it, there is no control over what is happening on the screen. If Nintendo has accustomed us to a lot of originality in this area, especially with the Wii, Sony has been able to renew its controller in a simple and effective way with the DualSense of the PlayStation 5.

Compared to its 2 competitors, Microsoft is struggling to offer something that will make an impression. However, the Redmond firm could correct the situation in the medium term, at least if we are to believe what leaker eXtas1s says. According to him, there is evidence of the existence of a new Xbox controller in the files of the Cloud Gaming service. They reveal what we can expect.

The new Xbox controller will put an end to this major flaw of the current ones

First, haptic feedback features would be integrated, like those found on the DualSense. Then, the major change that everyone was waiting for would take place: the batteries would be replaced by a rechargeable battery. Not too soon.

Finally, we know that a still unknown gesture would be used to wake the controller from sleep. The latter would be planned with the next Microsoft console at the end of 2026, which we currently know as Xbox Prime. But nothing rules out that it will be released before the platform.

The arrival of haptic feedback on Xbox could encourage developers to integrate it more into their games. For the moment, the function is quite under-exploited, perhaps because it is exclusive to a console. For their part, accessory manufacturers are not going to wait. Hyperkin, for example, is already preparing an Xbox and PC compatible model that looks furiously like a DualSense.
