The Witcher 4: It's clearly not for now

Three months ago, CD Projekt Red showed the very first images of the next game The Witcher, which will feature the little Ciri who has grown up. The next trilogy of games still doesn't have much to say and remains completely mysterious. If we know that the vast majority of the studio is focused on this project, it will not be released immediately.

During a call to investors regarding the company's financial plan, CD Projekt Red explained: “Even though we don't plan to release The Witcher 4 before the end of 2026, we are still motivated by this financial goal.”

This is a bit of a blow to fans of the franchise who were probably expecting a much earlier release given the studio's communication strategy. Isn't it too premature to reveal images of a game that will obviously not be released for two years?

That said, it is still good news in disguise. CD Projekt Red is far too well known for rushing the development of its titles, even successful ones, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, jeopardizing its teams, but also the quality of its products. With The Witcher 4, the company is taking its time and ensuring it has a finished game... in 2027. And that's a minimum, so the game could even be released in 2028 or 2029.

The Witcher 4 gave its first news 3 years ago. Only an image of a lynx mask buried in the snow had been shared by the studio, which has been working on the project ever since. Quite a bit of encouraging information has come to us, including the hundreds of developers who have been assigned to the video game.

We know that Unreal Engine 5 will be used for the construction of the open world, which remains good news despite the late arrival of the game compared to the version of the graphics engine of Epic Games. By the release of The Witcher 4, Unreal Engine 6 may be relevant, who knows?

On the narrative side, Geralt of Rivia gives way to his protégé, a girl of heart, and seasoned witcher. The hero will still be present in the next trilogy, but no longer as a playable character since it is around Ciri that the story will be built.
