BitmoLab has just presented a product that is likely to catch the eye of retro gaming enthusiasts: here is the new version of the GAMEBABY, a case that transforms your iPhone 15 Pro Max or 16 Pro Max into a small, colorful vintage portable console that inevitably recalls the legendary GameBoy Color.
This two-part case is designed so that the buttons are positioned on the back of the smartphone. In this configuration, its hybrid silicone and metal coating simply protects your device from shocks, like any conventional case.
Real physical buttons
However, everything changes when the user turns the lower part over so as to position the buttons on the front face. The lower part of the screen is then hidden, and we end up with a real little console that looks like it came straight out of the 90s. And it's not just a visual sleight of hand.
This part of the case actually fits into the USB-C port to communicate with the iPhone, and all the buttons are therefore fully functional. To top it all off, the GAMEBABY doesn't need to be charged since it directly uses the iPhone's connectors. The perfect recipe for indulging in a little mobile game during a break, especially in addition to an emulator specialized in retro games.
Be careful, however: no software of this kind seems to be included with the case. If you want to rediscover your favorite old titles, you'll have to figure out how to install an emulator like Delta yourself. This involves going through third-party app stores like AltStore. You'll also need to get the ROMs corresponding to the desired titles. The whole thing requires a little bit of technical know-how. Fortunately, there are plenty of guides available all over the web to help you.
Already available for pre-order
This new version is already available for pre-order for $25, or about 23 euros at the current exchange rate, on the BitmoLab website. A rather attractive price, since the price will increase to $39.99 (just under 37 euros) after the launch, which is expected before the end of March. However, keep in mind Keep in mind that this is a cheap gadget, so you shouldn't expect the earth from it in terms of reliability and durability!
