The progress in the world of robotics can sometimes be chilling. This is the case with this new "discovery" from Clone Robotics. The Polish company has just presented Protoclone. A humanoid robot with a particularity that we could have done without: it is capable of bleeding.
In concrete terms, the robot reproduces human anatomy in its smallest details. All the joints exist and artificial muscles allow this biped to move (not without difficulty). In a 40-second video shared on social media, we see the robot, as if it came straight out of a horror movie, hanging from the ceiling.
The company behind this unusual invention explains in the press release accompanying the video that it will very soon use a hydraulic system to facilitate the performance of certain movements. This robot, which already has fake tendons and fake muscles, will therefore have the right to its own vascular system.
A "hyper-realistic" approach who disturbs
Clone Robotics fully assumes the design of its robot. While many companies refuse to go too far in the "humanization" of their bipedal robots, so that the difference is always visible at first glance, this is not the goal of this company. With its robots, Clone Robotics wants to push realism to the maximum. The brand assures that it will one day build a "synthetic human" (because it never talks about robots) indistinguishable from a real human, even in its flesh.
Because this robot is capable, like us, of bleeding. The co-founder of Clone Robotics also announced that hemorrhage was the most common cause of death among his robots. A shocking statement, which obviously had an effect on the audience of journalists facing him.
A robot for every day
But despite its appearance made to haunt our nights, this robot would be the ideal assistant. According to its creators, you only have to do a task once, for the robot to memorize the moments and reproduce it. It would then be able to do the dishes, prepare meals or even take care of the house and animals.
279 robots are already available for pre-order. Their price has not yet been revealed, but it should be a few tens of thousands of euros. According to several experts, the purchase of a domestic robot will be, in a few years, an investment as significant as buying a used car.
In the meantime, "Clone alpha" will have to make a place for itself in the ultra-competitive market for bipedal robots. Other companies, much better financed, are already on the move, starting with Tesla and its robot "Optimus".
