Canal+ big change ad for subscribers in March 2025

Canal+ has just announced the implementation of a new service plan that will significantly modify its range of channels and services, which comes at a time of profound change for the audiovisual sector. We take stock.

NRJ12 and C8 are disappearing

This is undoubtedly the most significant change in this reorganization. The cessation of the broadcasting of C8 and NRJ12 on DTT and Canal+ channels, a decision taken by Arcom (Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority) in July 2024, puts an end to nearly two decades of presence of these channels in the French audiovisual landscape. While the reasons that led to this removal are different for the channels, the result remains the same: more than 500 jobs are affected. In the longer term, the two frequencies will now be allocated to the T18 channels, launched on June 6, while Ouest France TV will begin broadcasting on September 1, 2025.

The Canal group will also take advantage of the month of March to make other adjustments to its digital offering. The virtual channels TF1+ and M6+ will be delisted, but their replay content will remain accessible. The OUIuml; FM radio station, which also belongs to the group, will no longer be available via satellite.

Notable service improvements

Canal+ is not, however, content just removing channels from its offering. The company is also improving its services, particularly through audio description, which will now be activated on all vectors with the “AD” logo. Name changes are also on the agenda: Paramount Channel becomes Paramount Network, while France Bleu is transformed into ICI.

The implementation of this new service plan will not happen overnight. Canal+ has planned a gradual deployment, adapted to the different broadcast media. For satellite users, the update will be done automatically between 3am and 5am on March 4th. ADSL/Fibre and OTT subscribers will see the changes starting at 9am, while the myCANAL application will be updated day from 10 a.m.

What future for Canal+?

These changes are part of a broader strategy by Canal+, which announced in December 2024 the withdrawal of its pay channels from DTT from June 2025. At the same time, the group also reviewed its subscription offers at the start of the year, including a change in the duration of promotional rates and adjustments to the services included.
