Miniature gaming consoles are all the rage among tech enthusiasts and retro gamers. These compact creations offer a touch of nostalgia while incorporating modern technological advances, especially in terms of screens, but also ergonomics. Popular examples include Nintendo's NES Classic Mini and SNES Mini. Fans themselves often embark on ambitious projects to miniaturize their favorite consoles, such as the mini Game Boy, the world's smallest functional console.

The Nintendo Kawaii is here to seduce you

In this line of innovations, a new project will soon see the light of day: the Nintendo Kawaii. It may not look like it, but this model is a miniature version of the popular Nintendo Wii console, designed to be the smallest ever, while still being fully functional. Measuring just 60 x 60 x 16 mm, this console literally fits in the palm of your hand and can even be attached to a key ring.

The Kawaii Wii features an aluminum chassis, with a laser-etched project logo and faux compliance markings for a stylized look. Thanks to a process of undervoltage and Using the Thundervolt, this console operates without a fan, using passive heat dissipation through organic fins integrated into the case.

For connectivity, the Wii Kawaii goes with the flow. It uses a 12-pin magnetic connector (similar to MagSafe) to connect to a dock. This includes a USB-C power input, four GameCube controller ports, video outputs, and a stereo audio output. Six acrylic windows with RGB LEDs add a modern aesthetic to the whole thing. To take things even further, the manufacturer adds the small key ring that will allow you to carry the Kawaii Wii wherever you go.

A project still in development

We must admit that the design is simply impressive, reminding us of the classiest of folding smartphones, or even a stylized pocket mirror. It is however important to note that the Kawaii Wii is still in the development phase. The project has evolved over time, with constant improvements made by the creators.

The project remains open to community contribution and will be fully open source once completed. This allows technology enthusiasts to contribute to the development, make custom modifications and share their own creations based on this innovative design. This is not the first time that its creator, YveltalGriffin, has indulged in this practice, and we can see here the other console models that he has managed to miniaturize.
