After the driving license, the registration document arrives on your smartphone, here is what it will look like

The digital registration document saved on your smartphone is coming soon. France Identité, the mobile application that stores them, shows us what to expect and even announces an exit window.

Soon, our wallets will be lighter. With the digitization of our official documents, it will no longer be necessary to carry them with us at all times. A desire that has been expressed by the government for several years now, and will be realized in 2023 with the release of the France Identité application. We are not yet 100% paperless, but we are slowly getting there.

After the identity card (CNI) and the driving license, it is the turn of the registration certificate, commonly called grey card, to soon arrive on mobile. The opportunity to leave the multi-part paper at home, as it still hasn't benefited from a more practical bank card format like the other two mentioned. Let's see what it will look like.

It will soon be possible to embed your registration certificate on your smartphone

The X (Twitter) account of France Identité confirms that the integration of the registration certificate is coming soon. We have a preview of the rendering to be found below. We can see that the registration certificate is represented in the same bank card format as the license and the CNI. Pressing it opens it to a dedicated page where it is displayed at vertically from top to bottom: the license plate, the registration date, the car brand, its commercial name and its identification number.

The objective displayed by France Identité is to be able to integrate the registration card into the application for the summer holidays. They start for all zones on Saturday, July 5, 2025, so it is likely that the functionality will be effective a few days before at the earliest. Don't forget that you can also request to replace your still valid pink card driving license with the new one. It is also possible to switch to the bank card-sized identity card even if the current one has not expired.
