Given Pedro Pascal's current success, it's hard to imagine that in the 90s, the actor was penniless and on the verge of quitting acting... For the past few years, he's been landing popular roles, from The Last of Us to Fantastic 4 and The Mandalorian. Surprise, he'll also be in an ultra-violent film by Ari Aster. A new direction in his career?
Pedro Pascal stars in Ari Aster
If you read Hitek regularly, you probably know that we're big fans of A24, which we consider to be the best studio today. They'll be presenting Eddington at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 13th to 25th. Ari Aster's next film, starring Pedro Pascal, will be in competition. Given the solid reputation of both the director and the studio producing the film, this neo-western, flirting with horror, could well win an award. The five-star cast is also a guarantee of quality for this horror film that promises to be disturbing... The pitch?

Lindsay and Marc are driving through New Mexico, en route to Los Angeles. They run out of gas just outside the small town of Eddington. Lindsay and Marc decide to enter the town to ask for help. They are initially greeted very warmly, but as night falls, the picturesque setting quickly turns into a nightmare.
All this, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, which should bring back some "good memories" for the viewers! The cast includes will reunite with the Game of Thrones star with other big names in cinema: Joaquin Phoenix (already in Ari Aster's previous film, Beau is Afraid), Emma Stone (La La Land, Cruella) and Austin Butler (Dune 2, Elvis). We're curious to see how the director will manage to transcend his rather banal plot into a work as bizarre, disturbing and unhealthy as his previous films - and inevitably violent. At just 38 years old, the filmmaker has already made three notable feature films: Hereditary in 2018, Midsommar in 2019 and Beau is Afraid in 2023.Will
Eddington mark a turning point in Pedro Pascal's career?

At 50, Pedro Pascal is one of the brightest stars in the Hollywood firmament. Everything is going well for the Chilean-American actor, whose career took a turn for the better in 2014, when he landed the role of Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of Game of Thrones. He then went on to work on several productions with substantial budgets, such as the series Narcos on Netflix, The Mandalorian on Disney+, The Last of Us on HBO, Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2. He'll soon be one of the headliners in Fantastic Four, his introduction to the world of Marvel superheroes.
After starring in numerous franchises and sagas, is Pedro Pascal starting to gradually turn towards auteur cinema? In 2023, he made an appearance in Ethan Coen's Drive-Away Dolls, a lesbian road trip in which he played a penis collector (yes, really). This year, he will have a more substantial role in another "niche" film, Ari Aster's Eddington, whose theatrical release date is not yet known. This is an opportunity for him to diversify and explore genres and themes generally left aside by blockbusters, without, however, starting to shun them? After all, that's what Robert Pattinson has been doing successfully for over a decade - we could even see him soon in Dune 3.
