Razer likes to try out sometimes strange things. It doesn't always work, like the Freyja chair, but no matter, the brand innovates. The latest curiosity to come out of the manufacturer's labs? The Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition mouse.

This is an ergonomic vertical mouse dedicated to office work, but which also aims to be effective in gaming sessions. In addition to this curious combination, Razer adds a touch of AI, with a dedicated button. All of this adds up to a product that stands out from the crowd, but is it any good?

Design and technology

The Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition therefore takes up the classic format of the vertical mouse, with a large circular base as well as an inclined part, where the mechanical switches and the scroll wheel are located. The other side is made of extremely pleasant notched rubber, with a hollow for the thumb surrounded by two additional easily accessible buttons. The first obvious observation is that this product is exclusively for right-handed use, with no left-handed version available.

When you pick up the mouse, you're immediately impressed by its top-notch ergonomics, both in terms of feel and comfort. The killer little thing? The appendage at the base that allows you to rest your little finger. There's no doubt that Razer has done an excellent job in terms of ergonomics.

There's an interesting little button on the top of the Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition. Pressing it allows you to change the DPI, which is classic. However, you'll notice that holding it down launches an AI (Chat GPT or Copilot). This is indeed the first mouse to directly integrate AI into its use! An interesting idea that unfortunately has a small flaw: it launches an interface designed by Razer, which once used, launches the requested assistant. A bit strangely cumbersome, it would have been simpler to launch the dedicated software directly.

Of course, it is possible to customize this aspect in the Synapse software, by changing the AI button or simply removing it. Synapse also gives you the option to adjust the DPI, which goes from 600 to a maximum of 30,000, by adjusting the predefined sensitivity level over five levels. A classic, but appreciable one.

As is Razer, we obviously have RGB LEDs with this strip that surrounds the entire base of the product. An illumination that has the merit of being discreet and fully customizable. Those who want to use it for professional purposes can opt for a sober white lighting, while gamers can transform it into a real Christmas tree with 18 distinct zones.

Finally, note that the mouse is wireless. With a 2.4 Ghz connection (via a dongle), we measured a rather poor battery life of three to four days depending on use (non-stop use from morning to night). A bit of a shame. However, the USB Type-C port is placed at the front and therefore does not bother the user when charging, especially for classic office use.

In terms of ergonomics, Razer has done an excellent job. The Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is quite simply the best ergonomic mouse on the market, and by far. Controlled weight (150 grams), solid technical part, welcome customization, clever inclusion of AI and above all optimal comfort whatever the size of the hand, it will delight fans of this kind of curiosity. This mouse has a unique feature: it also wants to convince in the gaming area.

A vertical mouse for gaming, heresy or a really good idea?

Using a vertical mouse for gaming, that's a funny idea! Yet this is the real proposition of the Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition: to be mainly dedicated to office work, but also to convince during gaming sessions. Does it succeed? Yes, up to a point.

We spent a week playing with the mouse and we rather enjoyed the experience, at least on single-player games like Oblivion or strategy games like Pax Augusta. Titles where dexterity is not necessarily the core of the gameplay. What's more, it's more than enough in MMOs to do daily quests or a few dungeons as an amateur.

On the other hand, it becomes more complicated in more demanding games, such as competitive and fast-paced FPS games, raids in MMOs or even MOBAs. The cause is not far to seek: such a format results in less precision than a classic mouse. Even more, we regret the placement of the scroll wheel, a bit too low and that you have to search for. On the other hand, the two additional buttons under the thumb are a real delight.

Moreover, this vertical architecture is simply not practical for gaming. Is this inevitable or a lack of habit? In any case, after a week, we still weren't very comfortable with it when we started a game.

However, we won't be going back to a classic mouse immediately. The Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is indeed formidable when you spend the day working on your PC. It's simply the most comfortable one we've ever tested. Gaming? Yes, it's not the best, but it still manages to offer an acceptable, if not optimal, experience. Launching a game of Oblivion between two work sessions is completely feasible with this product, no need to change mice on the fly. Finally, the inclusion of AI is a good idea, even if, in use, it only replaces the Windows Copilot button.
