Disneyland: New Up, Moana and The Incredibles expansion announced

Disneyland parks are constantly expanding. Projects are underway at Disneyland Paris. Walt Disney Studios Park is scheduled to welcome Adventure Bay and World of Frozen in 2026, and The Lion King area by 2028-2030. The group's other parks are not far behind, notably thanks to a new expansion announced for Tokyo Disneyland.

An expansion announced at Tokyo Disneyland

Opened in 1983, Tokyo Disneyland is the first Disney park to open outside of the United States. A park that looks like any other, but still has its iconic neighborhoods. World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Toontown, and Tomorrowland, visitors have plenty to do. But now, five years after the expansion project that added the land and the attraction Beauty and the Beast, and the extensions of Fantasyland, Toontown and Tomorrowland, the Oriental Land Company (OLC) has presented the future expansions of the two parks.

And for Disneyland park lovers, a redevelopment of Adventureland is planned for the arrival of Up, The Incredibles and Moana, which will replace the aging Jungle Cruise. An announcement that fits into OLC's long-term management plan, which seeks to "delivering moving experiences and surprises found nowhere else in the world through a unique development at Tokyo Disney Resort." A "dynamic restructuring of our theme park sites, including possible large-scale development such as a redevelopment of the entire area" is planned.

Tokyo Disneyland seeks to stand out from its peers, by simply becoming unique. Disneyland fans do not hesitate to travel to discover the parks spread across the four corners of the world, reinforcing the feeling of discovery and exclusivity could well confirm this idea, even more so when ticket prices continue to rise. An extension which, if we believe the concept art, would add to Adventureland, an Incredibles roller coaster, a Paradise Falls-themed ride from Up There, and boats from Moana in the middle.

It remains to be seen whether the rides will live up to the expectations of regulars, and whether Tokyo Disneyland will be able to regain its former glory. Once the most visited theme park in In Asia, Tokyo Disneyland has failed to keep up with the arrival of prestigious competitors. Now, it is Universal Studios Japan that holds the top spot in the ranking, with Shanghai Disneyland whose popularity has exploded in recent years.
