Elusive 3 has a title ... and already a suite

John Wick wasn't the only one to host Lionsgate's panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Alongside announcements about the character played by Keanu Reeves, the company gave news of its franchise of magician burglars: Elusive. The last time they appeared on our screens was in 2016 when Jon Chu continued the saga that began three years earlier under the direction of Louis Leterrier. A third installment is promised a release next fall.

Provisionally called “Now You See Me 3” in Uncle Sam's country, the project has finally found a title in its original language. On November 12th, it is with “Now You See Me, Now You Don't” that viewers will have a date. A choice that makes the American press smile, but which should not apply in our green lands.

Fun and magical

After this official announcement, the president of Lionsgate Motion Picture returned to the ambitions of this sequel directed by Ruben Fleischer. The director of Zombieland will immortalize the encounter between the illusionists of the first films and a new generation of burglars. The first images presented at CinemaCon and recounted by Variety show a diamond heist. The heroes are apparently scattered at the beginning of the film, with Jesse Eisenberg's leader telling them that "things have become too real for them. They've given up." Then, as expected, they reunite to lead to their mission well.

Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Mark Ruffalo return to duty. Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa and Ariana Greenbalt and Rosamund Pike join the cast of the project that Ruben Fleischer says is as fun as any other film in his career. “It combines two of my passions: heist movies and magic, and working with this incredible cast was truly magical. Of course I want to continue”.The studio didn't need to be asked twice, since a fourth installment was officially announced in the process.

Now You See Me 4 is on its way

Lionsgate has no doubts about the success of its new project and announces that a fourth film is in the works. Ruben Fleischer convinced the company of the need to continue. Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate, explains: “We were so pleased with the director's cut that we're already working on the next chapter. We can't wait for audiences to see what he's done with this third film and are thrilled that it will bring us even more magic”. The Four Horsemen haven't yet arrived at the time of their farewell tour.

The release date is not yet known, but we can still imagine that a decade won't separate the third and fourth installments. It remains to be seen whether the third film will find its audience, in the midst of a cinematic year loaded with iconic licenses, from Avatar to Jurassic World, including Mission: Impossible and the second part of Wicked. Ruben Fleischer's film will hit theaters a week before Wicked: For Good directed by... Jon Chu.
