God of War: A page could turn for the next game

The divine bald Kratos and the cult saga God of War celebrated their 20th anniversary last March. To mark the occasion, fans received free content, an update for God of War Ragnarok, and a video retracing all the long years spent alongside the god of war. This major milestone is far from signaling the end of the franchise, as rumors suggest at least two new games are in development.

A new musical breath for God of War?

Will Kratos really be back this year on PS5 as rumors suggest? According to Jeff Grubb and Tom Henderson, a new God of War in Greece is in development. A project that could be released in 2025. If we are to believe DanielRPK's words, Santa Monica has even revived a parallel idea, namely developing a new software in Egypt. We'll see where all these rumors take us, but a page could be turned for the next game(s).

In an interview with VGC composer Bear McCreary, who composed God of War, GOW Ragnarok, and the GOW Ragnarok: Valhalla expansion, confessed to having reached the end of something. "There's an ending cinematic that was really important to me in God of War Ragnarok Valhalla. It sort of wraps up Kratos's arc, so I feel like my contribution, from E3 2016 to Valhalla, is complete. I feel like I've told a story," he said. "And indeed, the Norse arc is now complete."

Will there be a big change for the next games with Bear McCreary's departure? Maybe not. If he's reached the end of a chapter, he seems open to a return, and even to working on the Prime Video God of War series. "If there's anything else that needs music in the future, they have my number (laughs). Everyone has my number, I'm there. I'm really proud of what I've done." Speaking of music, a crazy collector's edition for the 20th anniversary is available for pre-order with an alternative version for France, which contains the soundtrack of all the games.
