While the latest Pixel smartphone updates focused on what's new in Android 15, the April 2025 update focuses on security and reliability. Google notably fixes two actively exploited zero-day flaws, as well as several bugs affecting biometrics, the interface, and the camera.
Two zero-day vulnerabilities fixed in the April security update
The April 2025 security bulletin published A Google vulnerability has identified several security vulnerabilities, including two zero-days, that were already exploited before being patched. One of these affects a core component of USB management in Android. The other vulnerability affects USB components. Few details are available on this flaw, other than that it was already being used in a targeted manner. Both are classified as important flaws, which is just below the critical level according to Google.
At the same time, four other vulnerabilities have been given a critical rating, although no active exploitation has been reported. Three vulnerabilities specific to Pixel smartphones are also fixed: two concern network connections, the third affects Google Assistant. Again, Google does not provide further details, other than the promise of better privacy.
Other fixes for the comfort of Pixel users
This April update also includes several fixes, such as one concerning the fingerprint sensor, which sometimes failed, but is now more reliable. Adjustments have also been made. Interface improvements, including an issue with overlapping elements on the lock screen. Camera stability has also been improved when zooming, and bugs encountered when creating new users in the Pixel Launcher have also been fixed. Finally, a brightness blinking effect in some video apps has been resolved.
These improvements apply to all supported models, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 9a, including the Fold and Tablet models. The rollout begins today with a gradual release. To install the update, you can visit Settings > System > Updates and manually check its availability.
