Star Wars: In what order should you watch the movies and series on Disney+?

Star Wars: In what order should you watch the movies and series on Disney+?

The Star Wars saga consists of more than ten films, plus live-action and animated series. For the uninitiated, it can seem overwhelming to dive into such a vast universe. Even those who are only casually following can easily get lost. Don't panic, we'll guide you by giving you recommended viewing orders.

Star Wars: In what order should you watch the movies and series on Disney+?

Star Wars is a vast universe. Films, series, animated series... not to mention comics, video games or novels, there are hundreds and hundreds of works set in the same universe. In over forty years, the saga has had time to expand.

Star Wars tells an epic story that spans decades and decades (if we only consider the films). It narrates the fate of a multitude of characters and the stories constantly go back and forth in time. If you have never seen a single film in the saga (yes, it can happen) and you want to get started, we will guide you through your viewing.

You should know that all the Star Wars films are available on Disney +. We're going to give you several ways to approach this license. There isn't one that's better than the other; it's up to you to see how you want to experience the story.

Note that in these rankings, the most important films are those that are numbered (we highlight them in bold). They tell the main story: that of the Skywalker family, whose destiny is linked to that of the galaxy. The spin-off films (which focus on a specific event or character) are not fundamental, but provide a significant bonus. The same goes for the series. We include them in the first list for completeness, but you can ignore them.

Chronological Order

This is the most logical way to watch Star Wars. The story begins at the beginning and ends at the end. Simple. Here we have an epic that lasts over sixty years and follows certain characters from their birth to their death. As we said above, you can just watch the films highlighted in bold. No need to see everything. This list also excludes all content that is not or no longer canon, but can be found on Disney+ (this is the case of the Star Wars Visions series or the old Ewok films), as well as Tale of, which tells several stories in different eras. We didn't put the video games either.

Dramatic Order

As surprising as it may seem, there are other ways to watch the saga. The viewing order below is particularly popular. It may seem completely anarchic. However, it is very logical. Indeed, it allows you to discover the main story without spoiling the main twist of the saga. The return to Episode I, II and III after watching Episode V can be seen as a flashback that teaches us more about Darth Vader's youth.

You now have all the keys to discover or rediscover this legendary saga. Please note that we have only discussed films and series here. However, many video games, comics and even novels are interspersed in this universe. There is plenty to do!

Of course, we will update this article as series are added to Disney+, and there are many planned!
