Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA 6, is one of the biggest companies to have raised the price of PS5 and, in fact, Xbox Series X|S games without hesitation. Where players previously had to pay a maximum of €69.99 for a Standard Edition of a PS4 or Xbox One title, it now costs €79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A significant increase, even if resellers very often offer lower prices, and there are still the various digital stores with their promotions to save money. But prices could still soar, and the announcement that scares... everyone could well arrive, especially after the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its games.
GTA 6 could empty your wallet
GTA 6 will most certainly be the game of all superlatives, but at what price? On several occasions, voices have been expressed about a possible surge in the price of the next blockbuster from Rockstar Games. Thus, various analysts have estimated that Take-Two Interactive could take advantage of the aura offered by one of the most anticipated games of all time to shake up the market even more. A price around 100 dollars has been mentioned and a Swiss reseller had even put a product sheet online at 99 Swiss francs, or around 103 euros.
Will Take-Two Interactive risk selling GTA 6 at an astronomical price, even before the launch of a new generation that could "justify" such a practice? It's scary, but it's quite possible after the Switch 2 and the price of its games, nothing is impossible. Indeed, if you followed the Nintendo Direct Switch 2 closely, or read our articles afterward, you know that the Japanese manufacturer has revised its pricing policy. For example, one of the flagship games of the launch of this console, Mario Kart World, will be sold for 89.99 euros in physical version.
If Nintendo doesn't hesitate to charge more for certain Nintendo Switch 2 games, what's to stop Take-Two Interactive from doing the same? Truth be told, not much, and GTA 6 could reach a milestone that won't please at all. It would also be THE perfect title for that. Because even if the Rockstar Games game could make "enemies" by being sold at 89.99 euros or even 99.99 euros, that shouldn't stop it from breaking records. For all intents and purposes, it's worth remembering that Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 210 million copies... A tidal wave.
