Is Sony Making an Astro Bot Movie? What We Know (and Don't Know)

It's something we all felt was coming. It would now indeed be the case. Sony is reportedly considering putting a film on the Team Asobi license: Astro Bot.

The Astro Bot madness continues

Is Sony Making an Astro Bot Movie? What We Know (and Don't Know)

Since the creation of PlayStation Productions in May 2019, Sony has been multiplying the adaptations (and the good ones) of its cult licenses. Between The Last Of Us, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal and soon Until Dawn, Sony is not idle.

A second Uncharted film is on the way, in addition to several Horizon projects, a LIVE Action series God of War and several projects around Ghost of Tsushima.

Recently, Asad Qizilbash, the boss of PlayStation Productions, spoke with Variety to discuss upcoming projects and in particular the Horizon project on Netflix. We learn that At the base, it was indeed a series that had been decided, before finally opting for a film that corresponded more to the expectations and the creative vision of Sony.

It was during this exchange that Qizilbash confided that an adaptation of Astro Bot was envisaged in feature film.

A statement not really surprising when we know to what extent the Astro Bot license has achieved enormous success since the first demo in 2013 on PS4. After a demo on PSVR, an Astro Bot Rescue Mission game in 2018, and the consecration last year with the PS5 game Astro Bot which won the GOTY, the little robots have become true mascots of the PlayStation.

Thus, producing an animated film around them would be the logical next step. The question remains how to adapt this, knowing that the little robots in Astro Bot… don't talk!
