Marathon will be Bungie's first new game since being acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment and becoming part of the PlayStation Studios family. Like Destiny 2, it's a multiplayer title, specifically a PvP extraction shooter set on the planet Tau Ceti IV. "Players take on the role of cybernetic mercenaries called Runners and can play solo or in teams, in a world of evolving zones where any race can lead to success."
A release date approaching for Marathon? It's a big tease!
Despite the PlayStation acquisition, Bungie remains a relatively independent studio. Their next game, Marathon, will be released on PS5 and PC... but also on Xbox Series X|S. And for the moment, we don't know much about this project, except that it echoes the 1994 version already designed by Bungie at the time. Joe Ziegler, the game's game director, spoke out a few months ago in a developer diary, promising revelations by mid-year. And that moment could soon arrive because something huge is in the works after Destiny 2, according to a teaser orchestrated by the studio and PlayStation.
Bungie posted a tweet on the official Marathon account with the following message: "Security alert! Unauthorized transmission manipulation detected. These people are using illegal technology from one.voice.many.hearoursilence.com. The URL is real and prompts you to log in to your Twitch profile after clicking the dedicated button. For now, we get an "Access Denied" message.
What does this mean? It's not out of the question that Marathon plans to distribute Twitch Drops during a livestream, for example. And what leads us to believe that there will finally be something new soon is that PlayStation is participating in the teasing. The image with the green symbols seen below can be found at the top of the PlayStation Blog site and the PlayStation X, YouTube, and Facebook accounts. Do you think there will be a release date soon?
