It was to be expected. With the explosion in Netflix subscription prices, customers haven't stopped crying. Announced during the publication of its quarterly results, this increase provides for up to 33% increase in France, with the Standard plan with ads going from 5.99 euros to 7.99 euros, the Standard plan (without ads) increasing by 1.50 euros, going from 13.49 euros to 14.99 euros, and the Premium plan increasing by 2 euros, going to 21.99 euros. instead of €19.99.
While Canal+ is currently absorbing most of this increase for its Standard offerings, the Premium option, which allows you to enjoy 4K and four simultaneous screens, is becoming more expensive. A minor but notable decision, given that the entertainment giant had made a habit of passing on price increases for the red N to its subscribers. In concrete terms, the price of the premium package is going from €6.50 to €7 per month, a net increase of 50 cents. Current customers will keep the €6.50 rate until the next deadline, after which they will have to pay 7 euros monthly to continue enjoying 4K. New subscribers will pay this new rate directly.
What future for Free subscribers?
Netflix justifies these increases by the need to finance its investments in new content, including series, films, live sporting events and video games (even if this sector is clearly threatened). The platform also highlights the rise of its advertising-supported offering, which is attracting more and more users and represents a significant growth driver.
As for Free, which also offers Netflix in some of its subscriptions, no price increase has been announced so far. The operator seems to be absorbing the price difference, at least for the time being, and continues to offer the Premium option at a price lower than the market rate, particularly with the Freebox Delta.
