A hard blow to the wallet for fans of Netflix content: the streaming service significantly raised its subscription prices last Thursday in France, with the highlight being the Standard package with ads billed at €7.99 — 33% more expensive than before! While direct subscribers immediately felt the pain, viewers who use a third-party platform to access Netflix programs will have less of a hit to their budget.
Netflix cheaper through Free and Canal+
Free has just sent an email to its customers who benefit from Netflix in their Freebox Ultra and Delta subscriptions. We learned that nothing will change for those who access Netflix via the Standard plan with ads. The ISP continues to include this access at no extra cost, despite the €2 increase for direct subscribers to the streaming service.
On the other hand, there will be an increase for Ultra and Delta customers who subscribe to other Netflix offers, and it will be substantial. The Standard plan will return to €9 (+€1.50), the Premium plan to €16 (+€2). As UniversFreebox points out, this is still a "good deal", considering that Netflix's public prices are €14.99 and €21.99 respectively, a saving of €5.99 in both cases.
At Canal+, access to Netflix (Standard with ads) is included in the Movie/Series subscriptions. There is no price increase planned for this plan. This is not the case for the Premium plan, which will see its price increase to €7, instead of €6.50 as noted by Numerama. A small increase, then, which compares favorably to the additional €2 requested by Netflix.
