History may remember that Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 on the day Donald Trump unveiled his infamous tariffs. Nintendo has just announced the postponement of the opening of pre-orders in the United States, which were scheduled to launch on April 9. The company explained in a press release that it had to "assess the potential impact of customs duties and the evolution of market conditions."
The customs duties imposed by the American president hit not only China - to the tune of 34% - but also Vietnam (46%). The two countries where Nintendo has its console produced... Not to mention the 24% for Japan, where the cartridges are manufactured. The American launch is still scheduled for June 5, but perhaps not at the asking price.
Nintendo could indeed revise the prices of the Switch 2 upwards across the Atlantic. The console is offered there at $449.99, but nothing prevents the manufacturer from re-evaluating the price based on import taxes. For the moment, pre-orders are still scheduled for April 8 in Europe.
