After being the subject of rumors, the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed a few weeks ago. An announcement that was made with joy, but also with pain. In addition to the excitement obviously linked to the arrival of a new console, the price of certain games and even the communication gaps surrounding physical games somewhat marred the festivities. Moreover, regarding Nintendo Switch 2 games, one question still remained unanswered: what about the price of upgrades to games from the first console? We now have an answer.
We finally know the price of Nintendo Switch 2 upgrades
Yes, the Nintendo Switch 2 will indeed be backward compatible, at least in part. Big N has made it clear that many Switch 1 games will be playable on the new console, but not all. Some lucky ones will be entitled to upgrades in order to take full advantage of the new machine's new features. A process that players are familiar with since we've had the right to it for several generations now, and it has clearly become more democratic. with the arrival of the PS5 and the Xbox Series.
Like the competition, Nintendo will therefore charge for its upgrades and we now know how much it will cost us. It is the very official site on Nintendo Store which has just given us the clue. If you therefore have an eligible Switch 1 game, count between 9.99€ and 19.99€ depending on the game to acquire its improvement on Nintendo Switch 2. We are therefore in line with what is happening on PS5 and Xbox Series, without too many surprises, and that should reassure players for once.
The price difference explained: some games have much more than simple graphical improvements!
For the moment, Nintendo has only revealed the price of upgrades for four games. Those for Zelda Breath of the Wild and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom are offered at €9.99. Thanks to the Switch 2, the games will benefit from significantly improved graphics and better fluidity. For Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten World, however, the Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade will cost €19.99, as in addition to graphical improvements, the games will include exclusive content that can be seen as DLC. Mario Party will notably have new mini-games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 and will make use of the latter's features and the new camera. Kirby will do the same with a new DLC, Shooting Stars, which will also use the new features of the Switch 2.
