Nvidia is pushing out a massive patch following the latest major SHIELD TV update and the discovery of a list of rather frustrating issues. Users who choose to install it, however, will have to accept a surprising major compromise.
In recent months, Nvidia has delivered two updates, including a major SHIELD TV Experience 9.2 version last February, with several new features. The problem is that the software has also arrived a few bugs, some of which were particularly frustrating. And that in all this time, no patch was available,
The company is however correcting the situation in a hotfix update that fixes all the problems reported by users. Including audio playback problems, or even playback with Dolby Vision content. We therefore offer you the list of what the company has corrected. But before you rush to install the update, we still recommend that you read our article to the end.
Indeed, no going back will be possible. Above all, you have to accept, among other things, a major change that risks making you very angry, if you realize it after the fact. We reassure you anyway: its installation is not automatic.
What does the Nvidia Shield TV update 33.2.0.322 contain and how to install it?
The official release notes (translated from English) reveal the following changes:
- Fixes the issue where Night mode was ignored when DAP — Dolby Audio Processing — is enabled.
- Fixes DolbyVision content stuttering when FrameMatch is enabled.
- Fixes the MatchContentAudioResolution feature for USB DACs — Digital to Analog
- Converter — to send the correct audio resolution.
- Restores the HQS/Maxrate option for USB audio; HQS stands for HighQualitySound and Maxrate unlocks the maximum bitrate of the audio stream.
- Fixes compatibility USB TV tuners in the LiveChannels app.
- Fixes playback issues in Plex with AAC5.1 tracks — Advanced Audio Coding in 6-channel surround.
Should you install this update immediately? This is a question worth asking. Because even if the arrival of these patches is really a good thing, Nvidia is offering a sort of “temporary” fix here, for the most impatient. Or at least for those who don’t want to wait several more months with problems on their Shield. Which explains why, if you want this update, you will have to To update, fill out this Google Form.
The software itself comes with its own set of conditions to accept. In addition to, as we told you, the impossibility of going back, you will have to do without apps installed from the Play Store, as well as without streaming DRM-protected content like HDHomeRun for example. You have been warned!
