One UI 8 looks a bit like One UI 7.1. A preliminary version of the update shows few changes, following the One UI 7.0 revolution. But some AI features exclusive to the Galaxy S25 could arrive on older models with the update.
One UI 7.0 has been available on the Galaxy S25 since its release, but the update's rollout has been delayed on earlier models. After long weeks of waiting, the first devices have finally started receiving the new version, but Samsung has had to suspend One UI 7 on the Galaxy S24, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, the update causing crashes and slowdowns in some users.
The chaotic development of this version of the overlay, based on Android 15, will inevitably have repercussions on the version that should follow, One UI 8, based on Android 16. One UI 7 is a major update that brings many changes, particularly in terms of the interface, One UI 8 should only be a version in the continuity of its predecessor.
One UI 8, a One UI 7.1 in spirit?
This is what we see in photos and screenshots shared by SmartPrix. We see a One UI 8 looking very similar to One UI 7, and we could even consider that it is more of a One UI 7.1 in spirit, while the delay taken by One UI 7.0 forced Samsung to cancel the release of such a version.
We notice a few minor changes in the Gallery and File Manager, but not much else. Of course, this is still a preliminary version and other new features may still arrive before the final version is rolled out. But this One UI 8 will undoubtedly be an opportunity for Samsung to optimize and fix bugs above all, especially since Android 16 should arrive fairly soon this year.
For fans of AI functions, One UI 8 seems to bring Now Brief to new models, like the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Z Flip 6 and the S24 could also benefit. This tool generates a dynamic briefing that evolves throughout the day so that you don't miss anything important and stay informed at a glance. It is currently exclusive to the Galaxy S25.
