Available since November 2023, the PlayStation Portal didn't really have much to convince us at first. Sony presented the product to us as a simple Remote Play accessory, allowing us to play the PS5 remotely. Sold at the high price of 219.99 euros, it seemed like a real gadget, far from essential.
However, from the moment it was released, the Portal surprised us, notably with its excellent ergonomics, but also with its visual quality and aesthetics. Subsequently, it gained prominence with the arrival of a very important feature: Cloud Gaming (for PS Plus Premium members). Today, more than 220 games are accessible and playable on the Portal, without needing a PS5. This is a complete game changer.
Today, PlayStation announced the deployment of a new update that will bring even more features to improve the experience.
The PS Portable is improving
It was directly on the PlayStation Blog that Sony unveiled a list of new features coming to the PlayStation Portal with the new update that aims to improve the gaming experience when using the Cloud Game Streaming beta.
Sort your games easily
Now, it is possible to sort games based on their “recent addition” to PS Plus, but also games by name and release date.
Gameplay capture
During a Cloud Streaming session (beta), the “Create” button will now allow you to capture gameplay and screenshots that will be directly transferred to the PlayStation App and stored for 14 days. To do this, simply:
- Tap once: Display the creation menu
- Tap and hold: Take a screenshot
- Tap twice: Start/end recording a video clip
Queue
When the servers are saturated and Cloud Gaming is struggling, PlayStation Portal will be able to place you in a queue. This will allow you to wait your turn to play when the streaming server is full. The estimated wait time will be displayed on the screen and the game session will automatically start upon your turn.
Game Pause
During a Cloud Streaming (Beta) game session, the game will now pause in the following situations:
- The game pauses when you open the PS Portal Quick Menu. To open it, press the PS button, swipe left from the top right corner, or tap the Quick Menu icon in the status bar.
- Press the power button once to put PS Portal into sleep mode and pause the game. You can resume the game by pressing the power button again. If PS Portal remains in sleep mode for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will be interrupted.
- The game will also be paused when a system error message is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Notifications
From now on, if you are no longer active in your session (for more than 10 minutes) you can receive a system notification when your streaming session is about to end.
User Feedback
You can now check the new user feedback screen at the end of streaming sessions to evaluate the quality of your experience. This will allow feedback to PlayStation to improve, once again, the service while waiting for its final deployment.
