Renault is on fire: the new R5 Turbo 3E is at a crazy price

It's a figure that's making heads spin and some teeth grind: 155,000 euros. That's the price Renault is posting for its all-new electric R5 Turbo 3E, excluding options and customizations. A price that's bound to be controversial for this ultra-sporty and exclusive version of the legendary French city car, which is becoming the most expensive Renault ever in series production. And this price could climb even higher, since it only applies to the first 500 reservations.

It could therefore increase thereafter, especially since production of the R5 Turbo 3E will be strictly limited to 1,980 units, a nod to the launch year of the first R5 Turbo. Reservations are possible in Europe (including the United Kingdom), the Middle East, Japan, and Australia. On this occasion, it will be possible to choose the number of your future car... a paid option. And to reserve one of the first 500 copies, you will even have to pay a deposit of 50,000 euros.

Renault specifies that the possible customization phase of the vehicle will take place in 2026 and the first deliveries are planned for the course of 2027. At the beginning of 2026, customers will be contacted again to discuss their customization choices.

What will the customization options be?

At an exceptional price, an exceptional device. For the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the diamond brand is planning historic liveries for the standard R5 Turbo and Turbo 2, such as Grenade Red, or for competition, such as a black, yellow, and white livery reminiscent of the R5 Turbo that won the 1982 Tour de Corse. The manufacturer indicates that customers will also be able to choose new liveries with a "gentleman driver" feel. In addition, they will be able to make an appointment with Renault Design teams to create their own livery, both exterior and interior, where many elements will be customizable in terms of colors and materials: seats, door panels, dashboard, etc. Renault's goal is to allow "creating a truly unique model."

An electrifying tribute to the 80s legend

The sum asked by the diamond brand may seem very high, but Renault is not content with resurrecting an iconic model. The French manufacturer intends to hit hard on the market for exceptional electric vehicles by revisiting the famous R5 Turbo from the 80s. Famous for its rally exploits, it is about to enter the electric era with the promise of very good performances. Under its neo-retro lines, the R5 Turbo 3E hides two electric motors in the rear wheels, for a total power of 540 horsepower and an announced torque of 4800 Nm. Enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and reach 270 km/h at top speed, performance worthy of a supercar.

With its 70 kWh battery, this R5 Turbo E3 also promises more than 400 km of WLTP autonomy and ultra-fast charging. This is a bold bet for Renault, which is banking on the collector aspect of a car that embodies its new strategy. A technological showcase for the manufacturer, it demonstrates the brand's ambition to establish itself as a key player in sports electrification.
