Sinners: The horror film that achieved this decade's record

Sinners: The horror film that achieved this decade's record

Sinners, one of the most anticipated horror films of 2025, will it mark the resurgence of the vampire film, boosted by the success of Twilight between the late 2000s and early 2010s? What is certain is that Ryan Coogler's film, starring Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld, has just achieved this impressive feat.

Sinners: The horror film that achieved this decade's record

Released this Wednesday in French cinemas, Sinners is the new horror film from Ryan Coogler, the director of several successful franchises. He directed Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) for the MCU, as well as the lucrative Creed trilogy (around the same time, between 2015 and 2023) for Warner Bros. Whether playing the antagonist opposite T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) or stepping into the shoes of the son of the great champion Apollo Creed, the filmmaker turned to Michael B. Jordan, with whom he shot the thriller Fruitvale Station in 2013. Sinners marks the fifth collaboration between the filmmaker and the man we can now call his favorite actor, and once again, it's a success... A success all the more spectacular given that the film is, for a wide release, the best-rated of the decade! src="https://static.hitek.fr/img/up_s/2154337758/70b41_sinnersrottentomatoes.webp">

As you can see for yourself in the screenshot above, the film has achieved a mind-blowing score of 98% positive reviews from the media out of 224 reviews), and 97% from viewers (out of more than 2,500 ratings).
From the press, the consensus is glowing:

Writer-director Ryan Coogler's first original blockbuster reveals the full extent of his singular imagination and is a true fusion of masterful visual storytelling and catchy music.

From the public, the feedback is just as dithyrambic.

Ryan Coogler has not only delivered a deliciously vicious vampire film, but also a resolutely dark genre film, with a killer cast and a top-notch soundtrack.

In France too, the feedback from internet users is very positive:

I saw “SINNERS” and I swear you ABSOLUTELY have to see it, it’s really worth it

Vampires, blues, blood... it’s a musical horror drama, bloody, sensual and really stylish. The music is really great in the film, there's one scene in particular- pic.twitter.com/El3wcLOPnE

The musical sequence in Sinners about the past, present, and future with the spirits... it was something fucking amazing.

You really have to experience it in a movie. pic.twitter.com/3fnOe6U2D1

Sinners isn't just about vampires. It's about the blues, ghosts of the past, and a Mississippi consumed by its own demons. A film that disturbs, bites, and lingers. Good reviews are far from stolen. Don't let it flop. https://t.co/WJmFXESYpN pic.twitter.com/Q33YOiS6ot

I swear that Sinners is a crazy movie, it's already the best movie of 2025

#Sinners it was crazy!!!

One of my biggest expectations of the year and I'm absolutely not disappointed, Ryan Coogler treats us with a dense and gripping horror film from start to finish and where music plays a surprisingly important role!

I loved it so much! pic.twitter.com/5fxOEqXXcq

Towards a revival of the vampire film?

Sinners: The horror film that achieved this decade's record

In 1992 and 1994, Dracula and Interviews with the Vampire, both very adult, were well received by audiences and critics. In 1998, fans fell in love with Wesley Snipes' Blade, a rather dark and violent but fun film, with hemoglobin galore. Then came Twilight, which preferred to follow the forbidden love story between a bloodsucker and a human, leaving aside the horror aspect. Then there was a fairly short series of "parodies" like Dark Shadows, Vampires in All Intimacy, or Bite Me, which dealt with the subject in a rather light or humorous way. And we won't mention here the countless stinkers such as Van Helsing or Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, but know that they exist. Now, at the beginning of this quarter-century, between Nosferatu and Sinners, we are witnessing the return of vampires in the form of a very frightening, raw threat, accompanied by polished staging and a strong visual identity. Is this the beginning of a new trend in the horror genre? Place your bets!
