Some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are already being relisted at a much higher price on eBay. Scalpers want to take advantage of the tariff crisis and stock shortages to make money.
As expected, some smart alecks are trying to get rich by reselling the Nintendo Switch 2 at an indecent price on eBay. Several offers exceed US$700 on the platform, while it is advertised at $449 by Nintendo. To this price, you must then add shipping costs. These can be very high if the console comes from far away (some sellers are based in Australia, for example), further inflating the bill.
The announcements generally specify that the pre-order is confirmed, that the product is completely new, and that it will be shipped with its original packaging once it has been received. We can guess that these resales are specifically aimed at consumers residing in the United States. Nintendo has in fact canceled pre-orders for the Switch 2 there due to uncertainties related to customs duties, Donald Trump having decided to wage a trade war on the entire world. The console should be available there on June 5th, but its price could change compared to that initially communicated by Nintendo. An uncertainty that is good business for scalpers.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders already resold on eBay
To limit speculation on the Switch 2, Nintendo has implemented strict limitations for pre-ordering the console from its official website (starting April 8, 2025). In particular, you must have an account with a certain seniority and a minimum playing time to obtain the device. But with third-party retailers, it's much easier to pre-order a Switch 2.
The console is listed as out of stock at many retailers around the world. In France, for example, Amazon no longer offers the Switch 2, either on its own or as a bundle with Mario Kart World. However, it is still available at other retailers, some even selling it at a price lower than the 469 euros announced by Nintendo. In our country, the Switch 2 shouldn't be too difficult to obtain, so it won't be necessary to pay more than Nintendo's recommended price.
